A baby is born – cue happy tears
After the insane recent worldwide attention to Amy Beth’s incredible sidewalk delivery, I’ve had just a little bit of time to reflect on why it was such a moving story to so many thousands (millions?) of people.
I can sum it up this way.
His expression – that one of incredible joy – his exhilarated smile, in the the seconds after the birth of his daughter, is the one that makes people cry.
It’s the one that tells people “It’s okay. She’s here. She’s beautiful. Life is good.”
Hell, I’m crying just thinking about it.
So I felt like revisiting some of my prior births and looking at those images of family members in the moments after a baby is born.
It doesn’t matter if a baby arrives via c-section or on a living room carpet or on a sidewalk.
If everything goes well, the arrival is one of the happiest moments in a lifetime.
Sometimes when people look funny at me when I say “I’m a birth photographer,” I wish I could just whip out these sorts of images to explain.
No, it’s not THAT shot. It’s THESE shots that tell the story of a baby being born.
Here are a few of my favorites…
